eaQ Oor by Andy Martrich

In an age when computers write for other computers more prolifically than humans write for humans, eaQ Oor is a library tuning on a new set of rhymes. The handmade, the scribbled, the collaged, the photocopied, the keyboarded, the notated, the composed, the transposed, the transcribed, and the digital are an excavated vortex of historic and daily sequences mediated by a self, i.e. lacunae. Martrich presents an elusive autobiographical postcard of metadata alongside thickly painted and obscured image-alphabet-code, simultaneously and beautifully quotidian, inherited, catalogued, queried, found, and personal. The intercepted transmissions of eaQ Oor appear as language transformed through the fire of OCR, rendering layers of transliterated archives endlessly public yet only partially legible—haunted by secret combinations residing just below the interface presented on the screen in an information landscape saturated with data about data.

These bombed-out incursions scrapbook scrapped revolutions to great effect: Projectivism, Constructivism, Futurism, Punk Rock poster art – all converge on a perversly Benjaminian slideshow where “everything yet would not be by poem by any meaningful determination.” It’s like, after the Angel has blown past, we can finally get to work.
